Measurement guide

A. Length
Total length of the coat measured on the back, from the base of the collar straight down to the hem.

B. Chest
Width measured from armpit to armpit.

C. Waist
Width at the narrowest point of the waist, measured 40 cm down from the base of the collar.

D. Hip
Width at the hip, measured 60 cm down from the base of the collar.

E. Hem
Width of the bottom hem, measured from edge to edge.

F. Sleeve
Length measured from the shoulder seam to the end of the cuff.

G. Shoulder
Width measured across the upper back from one shoulder seam to the other.


A straight fit creates a modern silhouette while offering comfortable roominess, making it easy to layer underneath.

A relaxed fit gently follows the waist while providing a little extra room through the hips and chest for added comfort.

A regular fit follows the body's natural shape for a flattering silhouette. It has a more tailored cut, particularly through the upper body.

Freedom of movement from city streets to the wilderness.

Velho 1936 combines the best features of a poncho, an anorak and a down jacket. The relaxed unisex design allows plenty of freedom of movement and is easy to wear on its own or over another jacket for extra warmth. Snap fasteners at the sides let you adjust the level of coverage, while the adjustable hood provides a snug fit.

The matte Pertex® Quantum NetPlus® fabric is lightweight, durable and highly wind-resistant. Its water-repellent microporous coating makes Velho even more versatile in changing weather conditions. The fabric is made from 100% recycled polyamide sourced from discarded fishing nets.

Choose your size according to how much room you want for movement and layering. For a slimmer build, we recommend choosing the smaller size. A retro logo from Joutsen’s outdoor collection completes the Velho 1936, produced as a limited anniversary edition.

Origin and responsibility

Joutsen down coats have been awarded the Design From Finland mark, which signifies Finnish design and responsible manufacturing. The coats are filled with scientifically tested, pure down and feathers sourced as by-products of the meat industry.


Down and feathers are cleaned to a high standard of safety and purity at our own processing plant using the multi-stage Joutsen Down System cleaning process.
