To guarantee the high quality of Joutsen products, we clean and sort the down in our own refinery. The Joutsen Down System is a unique cleaning process developed by Joutsen Finland Oy to guarantee that the down products manufactured by the company are dust-free and pure.
The secret behind this purity includes a feather-processing line with two dust removal cycles and clean, warm, soft water. The process uses 150 litres of water for one kilogramme of raw material, and final heating at 125 °C guarantee that the down is pure and dust-free. This also brings out the down's best properties – warmth and breathability.
The process removes all protein-rich dander that originates from the bird's skin and is attached to feather and down material. Dander causes allergy symptoms in allergic people. All products made from down cleaned using the Joutsen Down System are suitable also for people who are allergic to house dust.
