MATCHING PERSONAL PREFERENCES
The pleasantness of Joutsen down quilts stems from the heat the human body releases, which is bound into the fluffy structure of the down. A Joutsen down quilt filled with pure down has a natural temperature regulation ability, created with the aid of breathable natural surface materials, long-fibered cotton or silk. At its best, a down quilt can be marvellously warm in winter and conveniently cool in summer. A warm down quilt is a good choice also in terms of energy consumption, since the bedroom can be comfortable at a lower temperature, thanks to the quilt's natural warmth. Especially important is that the down filling for quilts and pillows is totally pure and dust-free. Down’s properties, including breathability and heat storage, are at their best when the down is clean. Proper care and washing in accordance with the instructions for Joutsen products will maintain these properties in top condition for a long time. The allergy label awarded by the Finnish Allergy and Asthma Federation confirms that the products are suitable for everybody. As a natural material, down comes in a number of quality levels. The consistent high quality of the down used in each Joutsen product is ensured by our raw material acquisition professionals and our specially developed Joutsen Down System™ refining process. In quilts and pillows, we use down mixture ratios specified by a European standard, reported as weight ratios – for example, 90/10 or 60/40. Thus, 1,000 grammes of 90/10 down contains 900 g of down and 100 g of small, downy feathers. By changing the down mixture ratios and amount of filling, the quilts can be made to different warmth levels to respond to different conditions and the requirements of different users. The higher the percentage of full down in the mixture, the more luxurious, breathable, and warm the quilt is. Joutsen’s down quilts are divided into four ratings; cool, medium-warm, warm, and extra-warm. Naturally, the amount of filling and the percentage of full down in the filling have an effect also on the price of down quilts and pillows. With a good pillow, you sleep well and wake up relaxed. Selection of a pillow is always a very personal choice. The choice is affected by sleeping position and the requirements the individual user has set for a good pillow. As a rough guideline, people who sleep on their side should choose a sufficiently firm pillow that is high enough to fill the area between the neck and shoulder line. People who sleep on their back may need a relatively high pillow if a large proportion of the shoulders' weight rests on the pillow. If the pillow is only under the head, a low or medium-high down pillow is sufficient. Low pillows are recommended for children and those who sleep on their stomach. Joutsen down pillows are pleasantly soft and fluffy. They do not make you sweat, and they can be easily shaped when necessary. Pillows are manufactured with different down-to-feather ratios, providing a perfect combination for all of us sleepers. The height and softness classification is indicated on each Joutsen pillow package. The more full down a pillow contains, the softer and longer-lasting it is. In the firmer basic styles, small downy feathers are used as filling. Made of high-quality tightly knit cotton and the world's purest down and feathers, the Joutsen Triplus® down pillows combine the best properties of different materials. Triplus pillows feature a layered structure, and the support properties of the pillows have been emphasised. The core section of the pillows is filled with downy feathers, and the outer layers consist of soft down.
